The addition of OB causes the yellow value to shift to bluer value Recommended Dosage To acquire the maximum whiteness index a moderate 0.3 to 0.55% of Optical Brightner Masterbatch is recommended. Optimum concentration depends on the specific polymer and the compatibility with that polymer Product Code * P47/10/052 for Styrenics * P48/10/051 for Polyolefins Limitation Very high level of OB can cause incompatibility and deteriorates the effect of whiteness index which is achieved through an optimum level of addition. There are two factors which affect whiteness/ yellowness of the products. They are, the colour of the base polymers and the level of the OB added. If no whiteness agent i.e. TiO2is added the percentage of OB to be used would be lower than when TiO2 is present. Effect of OB Masterbatch in Recycled Polymer There is a growing trend and pressure from various agencies to do more and more in recycling of plastic waste. These wastes can be recycled into variety of products. By using OB the value of recycled material can be significantly enhanced by providing a more uniform white tint. However as compared to normal addition level of OB in virgin polymer application a comparatively higher percentage is required in recycled material. A moderate 0.7 to 1% of OB masterbatch addition is found to be effective in improving the apearance of the recycled material. Percentage of Active Ingredient The chemical used in PBI masterbatch is in highly concentrated and pure form, therefore contains 1% of active ingredient.
